Work Samples
This page contains samples of my work from several of my MLIS classes, as well as a few from my Bachelor's Degree in History from Utah State University, and some work projects from jobs. Each project correlates with major learning outcomes that build skills needed for the library or information field. Click on the buttons below to access the projects and learn how they contribute to my library knowledge and skills.
Game Systems Project
This assignment was a final project for my LIS 60050 (Research and Assessment) class. I came up with the idea to research the community interest and ability of Logan Library to circulate game systems, to go with the games they circulate. This project includes a research proposal and Qualtrics survey questions.
Lesson Plan Project
Because librarians must help teach, my LIS 60618 (Information Literacy) class gave me the chance to create and teach a virtual lesson plan. I taught my lesson on determining scholarly sources, and made sure to include engaging elements that would be applicable in a virtual or in-person setting.
Catalog Search Analysis
For my LIS 60010 (Information Landscape) class, I was asked to compare and analyze two different catalog search engines. I chose the Salt Lake County Library and the Logan Library to compare. Several aspects were the focus of the analysis, and I included summaries and screenshots to highlight my findings.
Question Sets
Focusing specific on reference services, I did these Question Sets for my LIS 60601 (Information Sources and Reference Services) class. I was given a list of potential reference questions I might be asked, and I provided a short answer as well as an in-depth response, along with the sources I used to answer it.
Digital Exhibit: Beat Movement
For one of my History classes for my Bachelor's degree, I was able to work with a team of three to create a digital exhibit for the USU library's online page. We collaborated on main themes, sources, and stories. This gave me an opportunity to apply history and research principles to creating an exhibit.
Commune Culture Capstone
For a history class, I wrote and presented my research on the culture of American communes during the 1960s/70s. This involved researching sources of the era and synthesizing a coherent message. I was able to share my research at a capstone conference with fellow students and history professors.
Microfilm Digitization Project
In my time working at the Logan Library, I had the chance to participate in a project to digitize microfilm newspapers and documents to make them available and searchable for the public. As an information professional, it is my responsibility to help make information accessible, especially concerning local history.
Rare Books Petting Zoo
During my History Bachelor's degree, I had the opportunity to select a rare book from USU's Special Collections. After researching about the book and its history, as well as spending time in it's pages, I was able to present Thomas Cranmer's Book of Homilies to patrons of the library as they walked by.
