Handwritten Notes About Thomas Cranmer's Book of Homilies
Rare Books Petting Zoo
During my History Bachelor's degree, I had the opportunity to select a rare book from USU's Special Collections. After researching about the book and its history, as well as spending time in it's pages, I was able to present Thomas Cranmer's Book of Homilies to patrons of the library as they walked by.
As I told visitors about the book, they had a unique chance to touch and interact with a rare book from the 1400s and connect with the materials kept in Special Collections. Not only was this an engaging experience for patrons, but it brought attention to what items are available for research, while also giving me experience working in the archives.
Question Sets
Focusing specific on reference services, I did these Question Sets for my LIS 60601 (Information Sources and Reference Services) class. I was given a list of potential reference questions I might be asked, and I provided a short answer as well as an in-depth response, along with the sources I used to answer it.
This assignment consists of two documents, each containing a list of questions and answers. Specifically with my interest in reference services, it is vital to understand what a patron needs, and to be able to obtain an answer that fulfills their need. In these Question Sets, I got valuable practice interpreting user needs and supplying a researched answer, fulfilling the reference competency of public librarians.
My ability to connect patrons with information is clearly demonstrated in these documents. With my search skills and knowledge of a multitude of sources, I can answer complex questions and offer information to help patrons be successful and happy in their lives.
